TACTIC: What makes TACTIC scalable?

Web server technology

The TACTIC user interface and its API (Application Programmer Interface) are both built on web technologies. A web server controls the user front end and accesses a back-end database, and is optimized to take advantage of the fast execution and scalability of today's web server technology. As proven by many popular web sites with their exceptionally high volumes, scalability is a natural strength for web servers.

Leading database technology

TACTIC stores all persistent data in either Oracle or PostgreSQL databases. Both of these products have proven track records in financial and other environments far more demanding than the largest of digital productions.

Optimized requests

Digital productions tend to use deeply nested and enormously complex relationships between various pieces of data. Applications must parcel data in a meaningful human way, creating complex requests in the process that slow down database response time.

TACTIC is designed from the ground up to master the complexities of digital productions. Every request is built using our own proprietary object-relational mapping (ORM) that optimizes for the needs of high volume, large scale digital production asset management solutions.

Ease of maintenance

The Python programming language provides intuitive, clean and clear syntax that makes it easy to refactor and maintain application code over the long term.

Load balancing

Load-balancing enables TACTIC to scale through seamless linear scaling over multiple cores, multiple CPUs and even multiple physical servers. It ensures a high volume of requests can be evenly distributed to all available TACTIC processes, with only simple configuration changes. Load balancing is especially important for large enterprise environments and for render farms, which can be massive in scale with thousands to tens of thousands of cores.

Segregation of services

TACTIC allows each of its services to be assigned independent resources without affecting (or being affected by) the other services. This feature ensures that CPU-heavy activities (for example, render farm requests) do not interfere with user requests.
